A divorce, also called a "Dissolution of Marriage" in Minnesota, is actually more complicated than getting married. In cases where you own property such as automobiles, homes, or other valuable assets, a divorce can be expedited should both parties come to an agreement on the mutual division of property and other issues such as child custody.

Low Income Divorce

Getting a divorce costs money. Even if there is no need for an attorney, there is typically a filing fee. However, for those with low incomes (125% below the Federal poverty level), you can often have part or all of the filing fees waived.

Divorce Paralegal

In many instances in which you already know how you want to proceed and have no legal questions about your issue. In this case a paralegal is all you really need. If only typing is required and you have no questions for an attorney, legal documents can be drafted by one of our experienced and efficient paralegal or typist providers. They can prepare many types of documents with the information the customer provides them that relate to divorce, custody, adoption, name change, or other such legal issue.

Child Support Calculator

For a divorce with minor children you must calculate child support and include this information with PDF files supplied with our divorce plan. The simplest way to determine child support can be calculated by using the child support calculator form made available by the State of Minnesota. Please click on the calculator or the link above to access the form. Clients using Affordable Court Resource's Divorce Program will need to print out and submit the information along with the questionnaire forms.

• No-Fault
  Divorce

  Couples shown to have lived apart for more than 180 days who have resided in the state of Minnesota for as many days do not need to prove grounds in order to get a divorce. They may simply state that there is an "irrevocable breakdown" of the marriage.

• Child Custody

  In Minnesota joint custody is considered the best as long as both parents are in agreement and visitation rights are often awarded to the non custodial parent.
